]]> Maintaining a clean and healthy smile while wearing braces is important to keeping your orthodontic treatment on track, and our team can help you cultivate your oral care habits to accommodate your orthodontic appliance. The tooth brushing tips we offer below can help you clean your teeth with little complications while wearing braces.

In addition to cleaning your smile on a daily basis, schedule regular dental exams and cleanings with your dentist, visit the orthodontist as often as needed and clean your orthodontic retainer every week. We encourage you to follow these three steps to properly clean your smile while wearing braces:

1. Before brushing your teeth with your toothbrush, rinse out your mouth with water to flush debris that may be clinging to your braces.

2. Brush your teeth twice a day for no less than two minutes and floss on a daily basis to fully clean any plaque buildup from your teeth. Every three months, it’s important to replace your toothbrush so that you aren’t brushing with worn bristles that could reduce your oral hygiene and delay orthodontic progress.

3. Angle your toothbrush against your gum line at 45 degrees to clean your gums and care for the tooth enamel above and below your orthodontic brackets.
